标准的历史
With the help of a three-year grant from the US Department of Education and the National Endowment for the Humanities, 一个由11人组成的特别工作组, 代表多种语言, 教学水平, program models, 地理区域, undertook the task of defining content standards — what students should know and be able to do — in language learning. 最后的文件, 外语学习标准:为21世纪做准备, 首次出版于1996年, 代表了教育者之间前所未有的共识, business leaders, government, and the community on the definition and role of language instruction in American education. 这份有远见的文件一直被教师们使用, administrators, and curriculum developers at both state and local levels to begin to improve language education in our nation's schools.
The National Standards for Learning Languages have been revised based on what language educators have learned from more than 15 years of implementing the Standards. The guiding principle was to clarify what language learners would do to demonstrate progress on each Standard.
The 学习语言的世界准备标准 create a roadmap to guide learners to develop competence to communicate effectively and interact with cultural understanding. “World-Readiness” signals that the Standards have been revised with important changes to focus on the literacy developed and the real-world applications. Learners who add another language and culture to their preparation are not only college- and career-ready, 但同时也“为世界做好了准备”, 准备补充必要的知识, skills, and dispositions to their résumés for entering postsecondary study or a career.
本标准同样适用于:
- learners at all levels, from pre-kindergarten through postsecondary levels
- 母语人士和传统人士,包括ESL学生
- 美国手语
- 古典语言(拉丁语和希腊语)
